My 72-hour break from social media, in pursuit of MORE

Sounds a bit counterintuitive and hokey, like the title of a 2015 article in Vogue. But here I am, as hokey as the Hokey Pokey, with my whole self in, analyzing my break from social media in pursuit of MORE.

I’ve never deleted or desired to delete social media from my phone. Why would I? I’m a MORE is MORE gal. Name it, and I probably want MORE of it! One could probably make a correlation to addiction, habits, filling a void, soothing a wound, etc., etc. Stamp whatever reason on my forehead, it probably fits in some way or another. The good news is I have a terribly short attention span and an infinitely long list of desires, interests, and goals, which fortunately keeps me from settling into anything too long.

But in this moment, what I desire is MOOORE from the MORE. I’m pretty disorganized, distracted, impulsive, and easily persuaded, which leads to fun, adventure, and quite often, mediocre results. AND I hate nothing more than mediocre.

So, what happens when you take away one of the distractions (social media) that’s contributing to a life of mediocrity? You:

  • Settle into moments vs. being distracted.

  • Feel the pain of discomfort and disappointment.

  • Cry.

  • Feel love from friends.

  • Appreciate and value friends more.

  • Engage longer in conversation.

  • Choose vs. being led down a path.

  • Smile, laugh, and listen more.

  • Accomplish tasks.

  • Gain perspective.

  • Move my body more.

  • Set goals.

  • Smell the roses.

  • Watch movies or documentaries vs. scrolling.

  • Join a circus (bucket list item).

  • Contemplate the meaning of life 😜.

  • Shop online 🤦🏻‍♀️.

My takeaway is... I want to squeeze the MOST out of every moment of my day, whether it be who, what, or how it’s being spent. I am committed to showing up as my best self, setting expectations and boundaries with others, taking up the space I deserve, not reducing my size to make others comfortable, participating, engaging, and thriving while guarding and protecting myself from harm. AND I will approach all of this with the same gusto as I pour champagne, which 200% of the time is poured too fast and with too much & overflowing.

Always,

Ms More
